What we can do to the Engineering Education?

There are many-a-things I want to discuss on the above topic, "What we can do to the Engineering Education?". First of all, I just wonder why the courses are still the same? I don't understand why the same age old topics are still discussed in the class rooms and why enough practicals are not been taught in Laboratories of the Engineering Colleges?
Can't we dare to revise the topics? Can't we ask the engineering colleges to concentrate more on the practicals rather than theory?
To my belief, it is the visual perception that is more powerful when compared to listening to the age old theory classes. One classic example is that, movies are the good source of memorizing things when compared to reading books. It is a well-known fact that, the things which we visualize gets stored in the sub-conscious memory. But, are the students today understanding the concepts what they read? The same age old topics if not taught in a precise manner, how can we excel?
